WORLD INDIVIDUAL DEBATING AND PUBLIC SPEAKING CHAMPIONSHIP 2007

It is with great pleasure that we invite you and your students to participate in the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship at Bishops, South Africa from Friday 30th March to Thursday 5th April 2007 (the 30th and the 5th should be regarded as travelling days).

The Championship involves four days of intensive competition and includes National Finalists from Canada and the USA and entries from as far afield as England, Pakistan and Cyprus, among many others. The speakers will compete as individuals in four separate categories: Debating, Impromptu Speaking, Interpretive Reading and Prepared Speaking (either an After-Dinner Speech or a Persuasive Speech). The details and requirements of each of these are included on this webpage.

This will be the first time that Bishops has hosted this prestigious event and we intend to make it a competition that will long be remembered. Not only will there be challenging days of debate and public speaking, but we have planned interesting social activities including an authentic African barbeque and an excursion around the Cape of Good Hope and trip to Table Mountain.

The registration fee of $250 US per person (competitor/coach/chaperone) includes accommodation in the Bishops dormitories for 6 nights, all meals and teas, all evening entertainment and the day excursion. The fee is reduced to $200 per person if you do not require accommodation at Bishops.

Places are limited so an early response will be appreciated. The closing date for entries is 5th March 2007 but earlier registrations will ensure your participation in the Championship. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. We are confident that this event will be a wonderful opportunity for students from all over the world to join together in the spirit of competition and develop new ideas and insights.
Yours sincerely

NTU Dorothy Cheung Inter-Tertiary Debating Championships

NTU Debating Society is proud to be organizing Dorothy Cheung Inter-Tertiary Debating Tournament 2007. Dorothy Cheung has traditionally been the largest 3 on 3 tournament in Singapore, attracting some of the best teams in the country. This year we seek to be more ambitious and invite international teams as well. We look forward to making this a pre-AUDC tournament, and involve the AUDC adjudicator core as well as its organizers in this event.

Tournament Schedule:
Since international teams will not be able to attend the event on two Saturdays (as has been the tradition), we have come up with the following schedule. We sincerely hope that the Singapore Junior Colleges will appreciate the opportunity and accordingly make arrangements to attend the event.

March 10th, Saturday:
Registration (Fee $15 per team)
3 preliminary rounds
Socials

March 11th, Sunday:

Adjudicator Core:
CA for AUDC 2007, Sushil Sriram. Our adjudicator core will also consist of renowned debaters such as Latif, from Malaysia and Norman, from Philippines. Moreover, a few other respected debaters are likely to come down if their busy schedules permit.

Updates will be constantly posted on our website www.ntudebsoc.org

Participation
Anyone interested in debates can enter the tournament under the name of a tertiary institution. Registration, however, will be done on a team by team basis.

The n adjudicator rule will be followed in the tournament. Therefore, any institute sending n teams is required to send a minimum of n adjudicators.

The Registration fee per team is $15.
Institutes are requested to register on our website www.ntudebsoc.org.

We highly encourage anyone planning to participate in Asians/AUDC this year or in the coming future, to take part in the tournament.

Accommodation
As organizers we will help in arranging accommodation (on campus) for international participants, if required. Teams must note that they will be required to pay for the accommodation themselves. Lunch on both the days will be provided. Furthermore, there will be a Socials Night on 10th March.

Organization
Apart from the NTU Debating Society Organizing Committee, some of NTU’s most experienced organizers (Organizers of Worlds 2003-04 & AUDC 2004-05!) will be involved. This year’s AUDC tab writer Kaushik will be implementing the AUDC 2007 Tabbing system with systematic adjudication ranking and feed-back.

Some clarifications about ICU Tournament in Japan 2007

About registration fees:
It is JPY60, 000 per TEAM, not per individual.

Accommodation, Transportation, Dinner:
Also, we will not collect registration fee in prior to the tournament.
JPY60, 000 (i.e. JPY20, 000 per individual) is the estimation of the cost
that you will spend during your stay at Japan for the tournament (i.e.
accommodation, transportation, dinner etc).We will arrange accommodation for you (i.e. reserve accommodation)but you have to pay for it when you come to Japan.

If you do not need accommodation because you are living in Japan, of course you don't need to pay.

Sorry for the confusion about the term "registration fee".
We will not collect them, but it is the estimation of the cost that you
will spend participating in the tournament.

If you have further question please feel free to contact
h091368@yamata.icu.ac.jp.

Thank you.

FIRST BP TOURNAMENT IN BOLESWA INTERVARSITY GAMES

The annual BOLESWA games held on a rotational basis between the University of Botswana, National University of Lesotho and National University of Swaziland will include debating in BP for the first time. This comes as a result of growing interest in debating in Southern Africa. For the first time in history National University of Lesotho sent more than three teams to the just ended world championships in Vancouver. Last year in July Lesotho again sent teams to the South African debating championships. This then encouraged the inclusion of debating as a new code in the annual BOLESWA intervarsity games. Previously only Zambia, Namibia, South Africa and Botswana have been the only African participants at worlds with South Africa dominating the region. The BOLESWA intervarsity games will be held in the city of Mbabane in Swaziland. The three sister universities hope to make debating an annual event during this games. It is expected that each university will bring 4 teams and that they will be four preliminary rounds of debating with a break to the finals.
